Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the general trends for the four countries. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that the UK emission 'drastically increased' in 1977, whereas the graph shows a decline. Additionally, the description of Italy and Portugal's trends is slightly confused, and the mention of Sweden's data is factually incorrect based on the provided graph. While you have attempted to select and report main features, the lack of precision in interpreting the data points prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your written summary with the visual data to avoid factual errors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'On conhery' (likely intended as 'On the contrary') is used incorrectly to contrast the trends. There are also issues with referencing; the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, making the flow feel disjointed. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of transition signals mean that the cohesion is not always effective. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking phrases will help the ideas flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is limited and contains several errors. You use basic terms like 'rose and down' instead of more precise academic vocabulary such as 'fluctuations' or 'variations'. There are also spelling errors, such as 'portugal' (should be capitalized), 'conhery', 'emmission', and 'remeen'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the repetitive nature of the word choices limit the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied vocabulary related to trends, such as 'gradual decline', 'plateaued', or 'significant growth', and pay closer attention to spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The United Kingdom and Sweden shows'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'The biggest carbon dioxide emmission was done by the residents'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the unnecessary use of commas and capital letters in the middle of sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
