Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the task. While you have identified the main trends (increases in Italy/Portugal and decreases in UK/Sweden), the analysis is underdeveloped and lacks sufficient detail. Furthermore, the interpretation of the data is inaccurate; you incorrectly attribute the changes in CO2 emissions directly to population changes, which is not supported by the provided graph. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview, include more specific data points from the graph, and avoid making external assumptions that are not present in the source material.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'First of all', and 'Secondly'. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final sentence and the abrupt ending. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. To improve, focus on creating smoother transitions between sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, complete structure. The lack of a concluding summary or a fully developed final thought makes the overall flow feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'increase' and 'decrease'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'majority increase' and 'martial decrease', which are not standard English expressions in this context. The spelling errors, such as 'poroportion', further detract from the quality of the writing. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant decline', and ensure you use these terms accurately in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there were increase' (missing article/pluralization), 'which is the sign of increase in the population' (awkward phrasing), and 'there us small poroportion' (incorrect verb and spelling). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and sentence construction. Practicing the use of complex structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will help demonstrate a wider grammatical range and improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
