Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response provides a clear overview of the main trends, such as the decline in the UK and Sweden and the increase in Italy and Portugal. Key features are identified, and comparisons are made between the countries. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for example, the text states Sweden reached over 11 metric tonnes in 1977, which is accurate, but the description of the UK's trend as a 'constant drop' is slightly imprecise given the fluctuations shown. The final paragraph is confusing and does not clearly relate to the data provided. Overall, the response covers the requirements but lacks precision in data interpretation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'Since', but some transitions are mechanical or misused, such as 'Stood as the highest' at the start of a paragraph or 'Furthere' (spelling error). The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph, which lacks a clear connection to the preceding analysis. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to improve the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are frequent spelling errors such as 'avekiye' (average), 'flom' (from), 'Ovehill' (Overall), 'begining' (beginning), 'methic' (metric), 'experienled' (experienced), and 'meen' (men/people). These errors are distracting and occasionally impede readability. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'emission' and 'metric tonnes', the persistent spelling issues and word choice errors (e.g., 'each body', 'each meen') limit the score. A wider range of precise vocabulary is needed to move to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Portugal and Italy shared the similar pattern which kept on rising'), punctuation errors (comma splices), and awkward phrasing ('it before became the second largest emission country on cut the end'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is required.
