Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. The content is underdeveloped and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While you attempt to mention specific countries, the data provided is inaccurate and confusing (e.g., '3, 7 and 10 percent' does not align with the graph). You have not selected the key features, such as the overall downward trend for the UK and Sweden versus the upward trend for Italy and Portugal. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the main trends and support your points with accurate data from the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks logical organization and paragraphing. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult to follow. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; for example, the transition between sentences is abrupt. Phrases like 'Let's analyse the graph' are informal and inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, use clear paragraphing: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Use linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'meanwhile,' and 'subsequently' to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'amount,' 'higher,' and 'rise and fall.' There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'this emissions reached its heights,' which is grammatically and lexically awkward. The lack of precise terminology to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated,' 'peaked,' 'declined steadily') prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing graphs and ensure you use words in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('decrease occured'), incorrect capitalization ('united Kingdom'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods. The sentence structures are simple and repetitive, lacking the complexity required for higher bands. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'This average varied person to person from 1967 to 2007.' You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and proper noun capitalization, before attempting more complex structures.
