Student answer (Band 4.5)
The graph below illustrates that overall rate of carbon dioxide evolves per individual in the United Kingdom ,Italy ,Sweden, and Portugal from 1967 to 2007.
In the graph below , the decrease occur in the slope of Sweden and United Kingdom and the slope of Italy and Portugal rise.
In the graph we can see the evolution rate of carbon dioxide of four different countries of world .In Italy the emission rate of carbon dioxide increases gradually during first two decades in the graph from 1967 to 1987 and a sharp boost occur during third decade. In last decade of graph the goes up slightly .In the slope boost during first decade and rise gradually during second and third decade .In last decade it remains constant.
In United Kingdom the slop moves down .it rest at a fix rate during first decade and then in next decades the rate reduce gradually . In Sweden during first decade in boost very quickly and during second decade it decrea

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the graph but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of trends is fragmented and often confusing, such as the unclear reference to 'the slope boost' or 'the goes up slightly'. Crucially, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('it decrea'), which prevents a full summary of the data. While the four countries are mentioned, the lack of precise data points or meaningful comparisons makes it difficult to follow the information. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and complete your sentences to provide a coherent summary of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and often misused, such as the frequent, redundant use of 'In the graph' to start sentences. Referencing is unclear; for example, it is often ambiguous which country is being described due to poor sentence structure. The abrupt ending of the text significantly disrupts the flow and coherence of the response. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, moving logically from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There is a heavy reliance on basic terms like 'slope', 'boost', and 'rate', which are used incorrectly in context (e.g., 'the decrease occur in the slope'). The word choice is often repetitive, and there is a lack of precision when describing trends. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for data interpretation, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', or 'plateau'. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a gradual increase', 'a sharp decline', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('the decrease occur', 'the goes up'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are simple and often fragmented. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing around commas and periods. The incomplete final sentence is a major grammatical failure. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb, and proofread carefully to avoid basic errors in tense and agreement.
