Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to adequately address the task requirements. While it mentions the countries and the timeframe, it does not provide a clear summary of the main features or trends shown in the graph. The data provided is inaccurate and vague; for example, the claim that 'Portugal and Italy produce large amount of carbon dioxide as compared to 2007' is not supported by the data, which shows a rise in emissions for these countries. The response lacks a clear overview and fails to make meaningful comparisons between the countries, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The introduction is repetitive, and the body paragraphs do not follow a clear structure. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and often incorrect way, such as the misuse of 'Although' at the beginning of a sentence that does not contain a contrast. Referencing is unclear, and the connection between the sentences is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended meaning of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the average emission of carbon dioxide that produced by per persons' and 'the air polution decreased'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use terminology appropriate for describing data, such as 'increasing and decreasing of public' instead of referring to emission levels. These errors occasionally impede communication, as the intended meaning is sometimes obscured by the poor choice of words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('The given graph illustrate', 'The image display'), article usage, and sentence structure. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, such as 'the average percentage is demonstrate in this period is United Kingdom'. The majority of sentences contain errors, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly hinders the overall quality of the response.
