Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have identified some trends, the analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary of the data. You have not included specific data points or comparative figures, which are essential for an Academic Task 1 response. Furthermore, the description of the trends is somewhat inaccurate; for example, referring to the United Kingdom as the 'United State' and misinterpreting the graph's data points. To improve, ensure you include specific values and provide a more thorough comparison between the countries.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks clear paragraphing, appearing as a single block of text. While there is a basic attempt to sequence information using transition words like 'overall', 'moreover', and 'furthermore', the logical flow is hindered by the lack of structure and repetitive phrasing. The connection between ideas is mechanical, and the absence of clear paragraph breaks makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, organize your response into a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific trends and comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'downfall'. There are also issues with word choice and accuracy, such as 'demostate' (demonstrate) and 'united state' instead of 'United Kingdom'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of verbs and adverbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'gradual decline', or 'significant rise', and ensure correct spelling and terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and punctuation issues. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper structure, such as 'finally lastly united kingdom first remain constant'. The lack of capitalisation for proper nouns like 'united kingdom', 'sweden', 'italy', and 'portugal' is a recurring error. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on using a mix of complex sentence structures and ensure consistent attention to basic grammar rules, including subject-verb agreement and correct punctuation.
