Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but the analysis is often unclear and lacks precision. While you identify some trends, the description of the data is frequently inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that all countries increased between 1967 and 1977, or the vague references to 'number one' and 'number two'. The overview is weak, as it fails to clearly highlight the most significant trends, such as the overall decline in the UK and Sweden versus the growth in Italy and Portugal. To improve, focus on selecting the most important data points and describing them with greater accuracy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Special, in 2007' or 'Number two has the UK and Sweden'. These transitions do not effectively link the ideas, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. To improve, use clearer signposting language and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, rather than jumping between countries and time periods in a disjointed manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'increase', 'rise', and 'go up'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'start with lower score' and 'the UK is stand at'. The phrasing 'significantly plummeting' is also slightly unnatural in this context. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', 'peak', and 'level off', and ensure these are used with correct grammatical structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all of countries below are increased'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are often simple or fragmented, and the attempt at complex sentences frequently results in errors, such as 'The number one is two contries are quickly go up'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and practicing the use of prepositions and articles, which are currently inconsistent throughout the text.
