Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main trends and makes some comparisons, but the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the claim that the UK peaked at '10 percentage' is unclear, and the description of Sweden's growth is contradictory. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the data points mentioned (such as '1 percent' for Portugal in 1967) do not align well with standard interpretations of such graphs. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that trends are described with precision rather than vague statements like 'climb much' or 'fell slow progress'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'After wards' and 'In addition Sweden nation'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, making it difficult to follow the logical flow between sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the four countries simultaneously. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'climb much', 'fell slow progress', and 'slighted rise'. The student struggles to use precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., using 'percentage' instead of 'metric tonnes' or 'units'). While the meaning is generally discernible, the lack of variety and the persistent errors in word formation and usage restrict the score. Expanding the range of verbs and adverbs used to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', 'steadily') would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Sweden and United Kingdom was climb', 'Italy and Portugal was rise') and tense usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Portugal was stable but rose from 1977and remained stable till 1977'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement would help improve the accuracy of the writing.
