Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided line graph highlights average carbon dioxide emission per person in major nations namely United kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal during 1967 to 2007.

Overall, the United kingdom demonstrated considerable proportion of carbon dioxide emission, meanwhile, the campanative data of Sweden and Portugal illustrated smallest ratio.

In 1967, CO2 emission in the United kingdom accounted for roughly 11 metric tonnes which was remained unchange until 1977. Nonetheless, Sweden and Italy expressed climb data up to 1977 in which Sweden shown around 10 metric tonnes, while, Italy represented almost 6 metric tonnes after a decade. Additionally, Portugal depicted significantly climb data of CO2 emission where it started from under just 2 metric tonnes to around 5 metric tonnes up to 1997. Subsequently, after 1977, Sweden and Italy demonstrated great differance in which Sweden's ratio in CO2 emission fell down drastically until 2007, meanwhile, Italy indicated significantly inclinced data around Under Just 8 metric tonnes.

Moving further, the United kingdom illustrated decreasing proportion of Co2 emission after 1977 up to 2007 where it accounted for approximately 7 metric tonnes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for the four countries. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. While the overview is present, it is slightly inaccurate in its description of the 'smallest ratio' for Sweden, which actually started higher than Italy and Portugal. The reporting of data is generally accurate, but some descriptions are vague, such as 'climb data' or 'significantly climb data', which lack precision. To improve, ensure that the overview captures the most significant trends (e.g., the general decline in emissions for most countries) rather than just focusing on the relative size of the figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'In 1967', 'Nonetheless', 'Additionally', and 'Subsequently' are used to link sentences. However, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Moving further'. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing. Overall, the structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the data, but more sophisticated transitions would enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'climb data', 'represented almost 6 metric tonnes', and 'significantly inclinced data'. The word 'ratio' is used incorrectly to refer to absolute emission values. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'metric tonnes' and 'emission', the overall range is limited, and the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention. Focusing on more accurate collocations for describing trends would significantly improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'which was remained unchange' (passive voice error), 'Sweden shown' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'great differance' (spelling error). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'under just 8 metric tonnes'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and ensuring that complex structures are formed accurately.
