Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Because the text is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the overview and the reporting of key features are underdeveloped. While you have attempted to identify some trends, such as the decline in UK emissions and the rise in Italy's, the analysis is fragmented and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the prompt. To improve, ensure you complete the summary and provide a more comprehensive comparison of all four countries throughout the entire period, rather than focusing only on isolated points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows some attempt at logical sequencing, but the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall structure. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the introduction and the body is weak. Cohesive devices are limited and sometimes used incorrectly, such as 'bu' at the end of the text. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'meanwhile', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, leading to a coherent summary of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, often relying on simple verbs like 'went down' or 'climbing'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'number of average carbon dioxide emissions' and 'more twice as many person used CO2'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure you are using nouns and verbs in their correct forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The line graph compare') and incorrect sentence structures (e.g., 'over a four decade starting from'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While some simple sentences are clear, there is a lack of complex structures, and the errors present are frequent enough to occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct article usage and verb tenses, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
