Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. A significant portion of the text is dedicated to irrelevant personal opinions about carbon dioxide, trees, and environmental issues, which are not present in the graph. While the student identifies some trends, the analysis is inaccurate and lacks a clear overview. The report does not effectively select and report the main features or make meaningful comparisons between the four countries. The inclusion of non-task-related content significantly detracts from the overall task achievement, resulting in a low score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The response lacks logical organization and progression. The paragraphing is ineffective, and the transition between ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as the misuse of 'However' and 'Moreover' at the start of sentences where they do not logically connect the preceding information. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the trends being described. The overall structure is fragmented, and there is no clear logical flow from the introduction to the body of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'caron doxide', 'neibourhood', and 'iltaly'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for instance, the student uses 'huge growth' and 'massive changes' repeatedly rather than precise terminology like 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'declined'. The lack of control over word choice and the presence of numerous spelling mistakes impede the clarity of the report, limiting the score to the lower end of the scale.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'carbon dioxide produce'), missing articles, and incorrect tense usage. Sentence structures are largely simple and often fragmented. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The lack of complex sentence structures and the high frequency of basic errors indicate a limited command of grammar, preventing the response from reaching a higher band score.
