Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends for all four countries and made relevant comparisons between them. The overview clearly highlights the contrasting trends between the declining emissions in the UK and Sweden and the rising emissions in Italy and Portugal. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you mention 'three major nation' but list four, and the description of Sweden's trend is slightly cluttered. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the distinction between the two groups of countries is more sharply defined in the overview.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', and 'To begin with' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For example, 'Talking about Italy' is a bit informal for an Academic Task 1 response. Additionally, the referencing of time periods could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within the body paragraphs could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'timeframe', 'continuous decline', and 'constant'. However, there are some recurring errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'tones' instead of 'tonnes' and 'nation' instead of 'nations'. The use of 'great downfall' is slightly unnatural in this context. While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies in spelling and collocation prevent a higher score. Focusing on precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'plateaued') would enhance your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'emission in UK', 'Sweden carbon dioxide emission was noticed'). There are also issues with preposition usage and tense consistency, such as 'than showed' instead of 'then showed'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization and the correct use of definite articles when referring to specific countries or data categories.
