Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 81 words. Consequently, the response is severely underdeveloped. While the introduction identifies the topic and the countries involved, the overview is extremely brief and lacks the necessary detail to fully summarise the main features or trends shown in the graph. There is no attempt to provide specific data points or meaningful comparisons between the four countries over the 40-year period. To improve, you must provide a more comprehensive overview and include specific data points to support your descriptions of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate a range of cohesive devices or effective paragraphing. While there is a basic attempt to link ideas using 'In addition' and 'whereas', the overall structure is fragmented. The text lacks a clear progression of ideas because it does not provide a body paragraph to detail the data. To improve, you should structure your report with a clear introduction, a distinct overview paragraph, and at least one or two body paragraphs that group data logically, using a wider variety of linking words to connect your observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is repetitive, particularly the phrase 'average amount of carbon dioxide released per person', which is repeated three times in a very short text. This indicates a limited range of vocabulary. While the words used are accurate in context, they do not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for higher bands. To improve, you should use synonyms and varied sentence structures to avoid repetition. For example, instead of repeating the full phrase, you could use 'emissions', 'figures', or 'levels'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a few basic grammatical errors, such as the repetition of the word 'but' in the second sentence and a missing space after the comma in 'Sweden,Italy'. The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety in sentence construction limits the score. To improve, focus on using a mix of simple and complex sentences, and ensure you proofread for punctuation errors and unnecessary word repetitions.
