Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all requirements of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons between the four countries. You successfully highlighted the contrasting patterns: the decline in emissions for the UK and Sweden versus the increase for Italy and Portugal. However, the analysis could be improved by being more precise with data points. For instance, stating that the UK is in the 'top position' is accurate, but providing the specific starting and ending values more clearly would strengthen the report. The overview is present but could be more integrated into the structure to better highlight the overall trends rather than just repeating details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'however', 'although', and 'whereas' are used to link ideas and contrast the trends. However, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'British and Swedes has been emitting' should be 'The British and the Swedes have been emitting'). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'metric tonnes', 'gradually decreasing', and 'peak'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in top position in carbon emitting country' and 'increasingly reaches to'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'tones' instead of 'tonnes'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that the vocabulary used is appropriate for a formal academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'British and Swedes has been emitting' and 'people of Italy and Portugal has been increasing'. There are also issues with article usage (e.g., 'in top position') and prepositional phrasing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
