Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify some trends for the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview of the main features. Furthermore, you include personal opinions and predictions about environmental disasters, which are irrelevant to an Academic Task 1 report. An IELTS report must remain objective and focus solely on the data provided in the graph. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall trends and avoid adding external commentary or subjective predictions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The paragraphing is inconsistent, and the transition between countries is abrupt, relying on informal phrases like 'Lets talk about' and 'Now we talk about'. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the flow mechanical and disjointed. To improve, use formal linking words such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', or 'Regarding the trend for...', and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus. The lack of a proper introduction and a distinct overview paragraph further hinders the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'improved', 'increased', and 'talk about'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'heaph' instead of 'graph' and 'controled' instead of 'controlled'. The phrasing is often informal and lacks the precision required for an academic report. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'declined', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure accurate spelling throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, punctuation, and sentence structure. For example, 'its clearly visible' should be 'it is clearly visible', and 'In last portugal' is grammatically incorrect. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary articles. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct use of articles, verb tenses, and punctuation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
