Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response identifies the main trends but fails to accurately report the data. The descriptions of the trends are factually incorrect; for example, stating the UK figure remained at '12' throughout the period contradicts the graph. Furthermore, the data for Sweden, Italy, and Portugal is presented in a confusing and inaccurate manner, failing to highlight the key differences or specific values at the start and end of the period. The overview is too vague and does not provide a clear summary of the significant changes. To improve, you must carefully read the axes and plot points to ensure the data reported matches the visual evidence provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical or misused, such as 'Looking first at' and 'Turning to'. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between countries. The sentences are often disjointed, and the lack of clear transitions between the overview and the body paragraphs hinders the flow of information. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The range of vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'number' and 'year', and there is a lack of precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'upward trend', 'decline'). There are also errors in word choice and capitalization, such as 'united kingdom' and 'portugal' not being capitalized, and the phrase 'top of year' is unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'peaked', 'remained constant', 'gradual increase', and 'significant drop'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'illustrates show', 'trends... experiences'), incorrect sentence structure, and missing articles. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as 'Another trends italy and portugal.' The control over complex structures is poor, and the majority of sentences contain errors. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to capitalization and punctuation rules.
