Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. While you have identified some main features, such as the UK's decline and the steady rise of Portugal, the analysis is superficial. You have not fully reported the data for all countries, and the lack of a clear overview or conclusion further limits the development of the task. To improve, ensure you provide a comprehensive summary of all key trends and comparisons, and always complete your writing within the time limit to ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to assess the overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, such as the confusing transition 'By 1980, the number of person were under 8 while it was same to the UK'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which country or data point is being discussed. To improve, use clearer linking words to connect your ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'used', 'increased', and 'rose'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the person who used average carbon dioxide emissions' and 'the used of carbon dioxide'. These inaccuracies occasionally hinder clarity. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'emissions per capita', 'fluctuated', or 'a downward trend'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you describe the graph more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Examples include 'the number of person were' (subject-verb agreement), 'there was slightly fell' (incorrect verb form), and 'it was same to the UK' (missing article and preposition error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and the attempt at a complex sentence is marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
