Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
This graph depicts the average carbon dioxide emission per person in four different European countries from the year 1967 to 2007. This is the period of 40 years. Overall, The UK showed the massive discharge of CO2 following that Sweden also showed emission with fluctuations. However Italy and Portugal showed almost the same amount of output throughout the whole period.
In 1967,the discharge of carbon dioxide in UK rose up to around 11 metric tonne fluctuating in years by a decline to almost 9 metric tonne in 2007.Following that Sweden also presents the increase in percentage to around 11 by the year 1987 and then fall to 7 tonne continue fluctuating and showed a sudden fall in carbon dioxide output to almost 5 tonne in 2007.
On the other hand,Italy started emitting CO 2 from 4 tonne and grew up to to almost 7.8 tonne by the year 2007.In the same way in year 1967 Portugal continued increasing up to 5 tonne till the end of year 2007 without showing any fall between the whole period.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview and identifies the main trends for all four countries. You successfully highlighted the contrast between the declining emissions of the UK and Sweden versus the steady growth in Italy and Portugal. However, the data reporting is occasionally imprecise; for example, stating the UK rose to 'around 11 metric tonne' in 1967 is accurate, but the description of the trends could be more analytical. You have covered all parts of the task well, though the inclusion of specific data points could be more consistent to fully support the comparisons made.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In the same way' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions between sentences. For instance, the transition 'Following that Sweden also presents...' is slightly unnatural. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of information, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations,' 'discharge,' and 'metric tonne.' However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'massive discharge' is not the most precise collocation for carbon emissions, and 'grew up to to' contains a repetition error. You attempt to use less common vocabulary, but the precision is sometimes lacking. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations related to data trends, such as 'a gradual decline' or 'a steady upward trend.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in UK', 'in year 1967'), punctuation issues (missing spaces after commas), and tense inconsistencies. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'This is the period of 40 years.' While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and sentence punctuation would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
