Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. The summary is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While some data points are mentioned, the description is fragmented and fails to provide a coherent summary of the information presented in the graph. Key features, such as the overall trends for the UK and the comparative starting and ending points for all countries, are not adequately addressed. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 150 words and provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends before detailing specific data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization and progression. There is no clear paragraph structure, and the sentences are disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often misused, such as starting sentences with 'Although' or 'Furthermore' without proper clause structures. The lack of transitions between ideas makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, you should group related information into distinct paragraphs—for example, one for countries with increasing trends and one for those with decreasing trends—and use linking words like 'however', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'increases' and 'decreases' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'largest ratio of emission' instead of 'highest level of emissions'. The spelling of 'co2' should be 'CO2', and 'then' is used incorrectly instead of 'than'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments ('The emission of co2 in UK. Although increases...') and incorrect verb forms. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary commas and periods placed mid-sentence. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, poorly constructed sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions like 'while' or 'whereas'.
