Student answer (Band 5.0)

The line chart illustrates carbon dioxides emissions per person in four different countries from 1967 to 2007 , carbon dioxides measured in metric tonnes.

Look at first, the highest number of CO2 was accounted in United Kingdom which was almost 11 metric tonnes in 1967. This figure declined rapidly nearly 9 metric tonnes in 2007, compared with approximately 2 metric tonnes for Portugal accounted as least number till 1967 . Followed by inclined dramatically and reached at under 6 metric tonnes which was same number for Sweden in 2007. However, this number was 9metric tonnes for Sweden since 1967 then it reduced gradually till 2007 before showing little increased in 1977 (over 10metric tonnes). In Italy, This figure was over 4metric tonnes which fluchuated slowly and stayed remained steady in 2007 at under 8metric tonnes.

Overall, United kingdom was accounted highest carbon dioxide emission per person in all years except in 1967, whereas, Italy was considered lowest carbon dioxide emission

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main trends and provides some data points, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that the UK was the highest in all years except 1967 is incorrect based on the provided graph, where the UK remains the highest throughout. Furthermore, the description of Sweden's trend is confusing and misinterprets the data points. While the overview is present, it is not fully supported by the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the summary clearly distinguishes between the overall trends and the specific country comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Look at first' to begin the analysis, which is not appropriate for an academic report. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between countries. To improve, use more formal linking words like 'In contrast', 'Similarly', or 'Furthermore' to connect ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'accounted as least number' and 'fluchuated slowly'. The term 'carbon dioxides' is used incorrectly as a plural noun in this context. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'fluchuated') limit the score. To improve, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, and ensure that technical terms like 'emissions' are used consistently and correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('was accounted'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors ('This figure... stayed remained'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before units (e.g., '9metric tonnes'). While the reader can generally understand the intended meaning, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent use of articles and prepositions.
