Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover all four countries shown in the line graph, providing an overview and specific data points. However, there are several inaccuracies in the data reported. For instance, the student states that the United Kingdom was the highest carbon releasing nation in 1997 'which make up almost 11 tone', whereas the chart indicates 1967 for the UK's high point, and 1997 UK emissions were around 9.5 tonnes. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off abruptly mid-sentence regarding Sweden at the end. While main trends are identified—such as the upward trend in Italy and Portugal and downward trends in the UK and Sweden—the factual inaccuracies and incomplete conclusion prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Task Achievement is therefore limited by these errors and truncation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response makes an attempt at logical organisation with a clear introduction and separate body paragraphs for different countries. An overall summary is provided ('Overeall, it can be clearly seen...'). However, the progression is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, such as 'Whereas, value of United kindom...', and abrupt transitions between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete and trails off, failing to properly conclude the essay. Referencing and linking words are sometimes inadequate or misused, which affects the overall flow and readability of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate basic vocabulary to discuss trends, such as 'grew', 'reach', 'decline', and 'constant'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('european', 'Overeall', 'emmision', 'kindom', 'realse', 'steadly', 'inclined', 'dramaticallly') and word choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'releasing nation', 'carbon gases'). Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The range is minimally adequate for the task, but lexical control is weak due to the high frequency of spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Whereas, value of United kindom and Sweden decreased throughout the period' and 'which steadly grew and reached to about 7.8 in 1997'. However, grammatical accuracy is low, with frequent errors including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues ('value ... decreased', 'Portugal was accounted almost 1 tone'), and incorrect prepositions ('reached to', 'accounted almost'). Punctuation is also problematic, notably with fragment sentences and misplaced commas. These errors require some effort to decode, placing the performance firmly in the band 5 range.
