Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph below provides fact and figures about carbon dioxide. In different countries like UK, italy sweden and Portugal. from per percent prospective from 1967 to 2007.
According to the table united kingdom remains at the top with the largest amount of emission of carbon dioxide, while other countries stay significantly low. Portugal stays at the lowest and it also increased gradually overtime.
Moreover, according to the data provided united kingdom stays at the top in both time. it was approxmately more than 10 in 1967 and increased a little over time and become close to 9. On the other hand, sweden is on the second place it goes to its peak in 1977 and from then it decreased significatnly over those years. while other countries portugal and italy they almost at the same level and they increase almost the same over those years. italy starts from more than 4 and in 2007 it goes near to 8. But portugal starts from neraly 2 and goes to 6 over time which is the peak of their carbon emmission.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main trends in the line graph, correctly identifying that the United Kingdom remained the highest emitter throughout the period and that Portugal started at the lowest point and increased gradually. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that the UK emission 'become close to 9' (which is accurate for 1997, but missed in 2007 at 8.7), and claims that Italy and Portugal 'increase almost the same' when Portugal grew substantially from 1.2 to 5.4 while Italy went from 4.3 to 7.6. Furthermore, the description of Sweden is confused, stating it went to its peak in 1977 and then decreased, which is partially correct, but the overall summarization lacks a cohesive overview of all four countries. This performance aligns best with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into brief paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The introduction is fragmented and ungrammatical ('The graph below provides fact and figures... from per percent prospective...'). Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the constant reliance on 'according to the table/data' and 'moreover'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clear structure, leading to a disjointed flow where comparisons between countries are muddled rather than systematically contrasted. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns and ambiguous country comparisons. This level of cohesion and paragraphing reflects Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'fact and figures', 'per percent prospective', and 'carbon emmission' (spelling error). The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'significantly' and 'gradually', but control is weak, and the range is strictly limited. Basic terms like 'top', 'lowest', 'peak', and 'increase' are recycled without variation. These lexical limitations and frequent inaccuracies restrict the response to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting largely of simple sentences joined by basic coordinating conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation flaws, including fragmented sentences ('In different countries like UK, italy sweden and Portugal. from per percent prospective...'), failure to capitalize proper nouns ('italy', 'sweden'), and tense inconsistencies ('united kingdom remains... it was approxmately...'). Complex structures are rarely attempted and, when used, are often faulty. This control of grammar and punctuation places the writing firmly at Band 5.0.
