Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, containing only 109 words, which results in a severe penalty under Task Achievement. Furthermore, the content fails to fully or accurately report the main features and comparisons of the chart. While the writer attempts an overview and mentions some general trends, several statements are incomplete, fragmented, or confusing, such as 'Italy and PortugalCo2 emissions in metric tonnes rise accordingly' and the sentence fragment 'Later it re Whereas United kingdom faced...'. Key data points are either omitted or misreported, meaning the overall task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organisation of the text is hindered by fragmented sentences, incomplete thoughts, and very poor paragraph structure. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as the abrupt transition 'In the first place, Italy and Portugal numbers...' and the dangling conjunction 'Later it re Whereas United kingdom faced...'. Paragraphing is not used effectively to structure the comparison of the different countries, leading to a text that lacks overall logical progression and coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, featuring several spelling errors such as 'emmision' and 'Uited', alongside word-choice errors like 'numbers of emission' instead of 'emission levels'. The writer also makes mechanical errors in word formation, such as 'lose' instead of 'loss'. The range of vocabulary is inadequate for a higher band score, and errors in spelling and word choice occasionally impede comprehension.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structures attempted are very simple, and most complex sentence attempts break down entirely, resulting in sentence fragments and ungrammatical constructions like 'Later it re Whereas United kingdom faced a gradual decrease in metric tones years by years.' There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and plurals (e.g., 'metric tones', 'years by years'). These errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and reflect a very limited grammatical range.
