Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph compares the average carbon dioxide emission per individual in the United kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal between 1967 nad 2007. At a glance, the highest carbon emission was recorded through united kingdom in 2007.
Overall, Italy and portugal experienced a uptrend whereas United kingdom followd the down trend over the period of time. Although Sweden showed flactuated pattern, it was ultimately in the down trend.
To begin with, in 1967, Portugal had the lowest emission, which was 1 metric tonne, while italy had quite more carbon emission, marked at 4 metric tonnes and graph increased over the period of time, finally reached at the 5 and 7.8 metric tonnes emission respectively. In the case of UK and Sweden, the graph were stands at 9 metic tonnes and 11 metric tonnes respectively, and followed the dowen trend and ultimately reached at 9 metric tonnes and 5 metric tonnes oderly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main trends in the line graph, identifying that Italy and Portugal experienced an upward trend while the UK trended downwards, with Sweden showing fluctuations. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the introduction incorrectly states that 'the highest carbon emission was recorded through united kingdom in 2007' (it was actually highest in 1967 at over 10 tonnes, and Sweden or the UK were higher in other years). Furthermore, specific figures cited in the body paragraphs (such as Portugal starting at '1 metric tonne' and Italy at '4') are rough approximations, and some statements contain vague or incorrect positioning. The overview is partially present, but the task is only partially addressed due to data misinterpretations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is organised into four paragraphs, including a brief introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'In the case of'. However, referencing and progression are sometimes faulty. For example, transitional phrases feel slightly mechanical, and sentences within the body paragraphs lack smooth logical progression, jumping between countries somewhat haphazardly. Paragraphing is present, but overall the logical flow is disrupted by imprecise referencing and awkward transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate basic trends, featuring terms like 'uptrend', 'down trend', and 'flactuated pattern' (misspelled as flactuated). There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'nad' instead of 'and', 'followd', 'dowen', and 'oderly' (presumably meaning 'orderly' or 'respectively'). Less common lexical items are attempted but often inaccurate or incorrectly colligated. The range is sufficient for the task, but frequent mechanical and lexical errors restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or comparative clauses like 'Portugal had the lowest emission, which was 1 metric tonne, while italy had quite more carbon emission...'. However, grammatical control is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, prepositions, articles, and word forms, such as 'graph were stands at' and 'graph increased'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent (e.g., 'united kingdom', 'italy', 'portugal'). These errors frequently distract the reader, though they do not completely impede overall understanding.
