Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting figures for the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal between 1967 and 2007. However, the task achievement is hindered by several inaccurate data readings (for instance, stating the UK started at 11 and went to 9, or that Italy went to 3.5, and Portugal jumped to 4.5). Furthermore, the overview provided at the end ("each country is producing more carbon emmssion is compared to past") is factually incorrect for the UK and Sweden, both of which saw significant decreases from their peak or starting points. The writing includes conversational personal interjections ("first of all i like to discuss about"), which detracts from the formal academic tone required for Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response is written as one single, long, continuous run-on sentence without any paragraph breaks or proper punctuation (such as periods or capital letters for proper nouns like 'sweden', 'italy', and 'portugal'). There is a lack of logical progression, and cohesive devices are rudimentary, repetitive, and often misused (such as excessive and chained uses of 'where as'). The absence of paragraphing and punctuation makes the text difficult to follow and cohesive management highly faulty throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'emmisiion', 'reletively', 'toonesin', 'emmssion'). The student attempts some less common terms like 'production' and 'region', but word choices are frequently imprecise or unnatural, such as 'hype' or 'jumped' used inconsistently. The constant misspelling of common words and limited control over lexical items constrain the communication and place the response firmly in the lower band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical structure is extremely weak, consisting primarily of a massive run-on sentence joined by comma splices and conjunctions like 'where as' rather than distinct, well-formed clauses. There are severe punctuation errors, including a complete lack of capitalisation for country names and sentence beginnings, alongside missing periods. Grammatical accuracy is very poor, with frequent errors in verb tense, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement that constantly impede the reader's understanding.
