Student answer (Band 5.0)
The Line graph demostrate that the emission of carbon dioxide per person in Metric tonnes in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
We clearly see that in the united kingdom the emission of the carbon dioxide id higher in the year of 1967 by nearly 10.5 but as the time runs it fell by 8.5 in the 2007 on the hand Sweden in 1967 it's ratio near by 8.2 and same its sharply rose in 1977 and then decrease by 4.5 in 2007.
Moving further with Italy and Portugal in starting year 1967 ratio is 4.2 and 1 respectively but then it sharply rose in the 2007 by Italt at 7.5 and Portugaal at reached at 5.2.
Overoll In the united kingdom and Sweden there a decrease in the emission on the other hand in Italy and Portugal has slighly large emission in between 1967 to 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting figures and trends for all four countries shown in the line graph, meeting the 150-word requirement. However, the response falls short in terms of data accuracy and overall task coverage. For instance, the student states that Italy and Portugal had a 'ratio' of 4.2 and 1 in 1967, which is reasonably close to the data, but the summary of trends lacks a cohesive overview paragraph that outlines the main general trends. Furthermore, some data points are incorrectly reported or vague (e.g., 'decrease by 4.5 in 2007' for Sweden). While the key countries are mentioned, the lack of a clear overall trend and several inaccurate data points prevent this from achieving a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is divided into four paragraphs, which shows some basic awareness of paragraph structure for an academic report. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor cohesive devices and awkward transitions such as 'Moving further with Italy and Portugal in starting year' and 'Overoll In the united kingdom'. Referencing is also problematic, with pronouns and relational phrases failing to create smooth links between sentences. The introductory sentence is a fragment rather than a complete clause, as it starts with 'The Line graph demostrate that...' without finishing the predicate properly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak and mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'rose', 'decrease', and 'emission'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response, including 'demostrate' instead of 'demonstrate', 'id' instead of 'is', 'Italt' for 'Italy', 'Portugaal' for 'Portugal', and 'Overoll' for 'Overall'. The student also struggles with collocation and phrasing, using non-standard expressions like 'as the time runs' and 'its ratio near by'. These lexical inaccuracies and the restricted range of vocabulary place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed compound sentences. There are frequent, heavy grammatical errors that impede comprehension, such as missing verbs or incorrect clause structures in the introduction ('The Line graph demostrate that the emission...'). Run-on sentences are also present, compounded by poor punctuation and a lack of capitalisation for proper nouns like 'united kingdom' and 'portugal'. Complex sentence structures are rarely attempted, and when they are, they contain persistent errors in agreement and tense consistency. Control over basic grammar and punctuation needs significant improvement.
