The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph shows the averge carbon dioxide emission per person in the United Kingdom sweden , italy , and Portugal Form in 1967 to 2007.

Overall carbon dioxide emission decreased in the UK and sweden, while they increased in italy and Portugal. The UK had the hightest emission for most of the periods whereas Portugal had the lowest. In 1967, the UK produced about 11 tonnes of CO2 per person. This figure changed only slightly and then gradually fell to around 8.5 tonnes in 2007. sweden started at about 8.5 tonnes and increased to just over 10 tonnes in 1977. After that its emission dropped considerably to about 5 tonnes in 2007.

Italy showed the opposite trend .its emission increased from approximately 4 tonnes in 1967. They than 6 tonnes in 1977. They can continued to rise and reached around 7.5 tonnes in 1997, before remaning almost stable until 2007.

Finally, Portugal had the lowest level at the beginning at about 1 tonnes per person.its emission rose streadily throughtout the periods. reaching approximately in 5 tonnes in 2007.
