The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph gives information about the carbon dioxide emissions by per person in four countries from 1967 to 2007 . The data is given in metric tonnes .

At first glance, in 1967, nearly 1 metric tonne carbon dioxide emitted in Portugal and the number was sharply increased to near about 5 metric tonnes till 1997 after that it remained stable upto 2007. However , in Italy above 4 metric tonnes carbon dioxide emiited in 1967 then it followed increasing trend till 2007 and recorded as just 8 metric tonnes.

Moving further, the carbon emission in Sweden was nearly 8.5 metric tonnes in the given first year and it fastly increased to 11 then it declined to 5.5 in 2007. On the other hand , the carbon emission in the United Kingdom was nearly11 metric tonnes and it followed decreasing trend till 2007 and reached to approximately 9 metric tonnes .

Overall, it is crystal clear that maximum carbon emision was emitted by The United Kingdom while minimum was by Portugal.
