The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The graph represents the average carbon dioxide emissions per person in the United kingdom, Swedon, Italy, and Portugul between 1967 and 2007.

Overall, the UK had the highest Corbon dioxide emissions throughout the period, although its figure gradually declined. Swaden also experienced a significant decrease after reaching a peak in 1977. In contrast, emissions in italy and Portugal generally increased.

In 1967, the UK produced about 10.8 metric tonnes of corbon dioxide per person, compared with approximately 8.7 tonnes in Sweden. Italy and Portugul had much lower figures, at around 4.3 ad 1.2 tonnes respectively. By 1977, Sweden had risen to just ovrt 10 tonnes, while theUK remained slightly higher at about 10.7 tonnes. Italy increased to around 6.2 tonnes and Portugal approximately 2.2 tones.

From 1977 onwards, Swedens emissions fell sharply, reaching about 5.2 tonnes in 2007. The UK figure also declined steadily to around 8.5 tonnes. Meanwhile, italy rose to 7.5 tonnes in 1977 before remaining almost stable. Portugal increased steadily and reached approximately 5.2 tonnes by 2007.
