Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the four countries over the given time period. An appropriate overview is provided at the end, correctly identifying the overall upward and downward trends. However, some ideas and data points are slightly underdeveloped or imprecise, such as describing the UK emissions as remaining 'less than 10 tonnes' in 2007 when the figure is 8.7, or providing somewhat vague approximations for Portugal. This positions the task response solidly in the middle band, as all key requirements are addressed, but greater precision and deeper extension of specific trends would be needed to reach the next level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, country-by-country body paragraphs, and a concluding overview. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate the different nations. Cohesion within and between sentences is sometimes mechanical or relies on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'According to the given graph' and 'In year 1967'. While referencing and logical flow are generally maintained, the somewhat formulaic connections prevent the response from achieving a more fluid and sophisticated level of organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic trends through words like 'emissions', 'increased', and 'decreased'. There are several awkward collocations, word choice inaccuracies, and non-standard expressions, such as 'discharging of CO2 by per person', 'CO2 releases individual', and 'this proposion was increased'. Spelling and word-formation errors are noticeable but do not severely impede communication. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of less common vocabulary and refine their control over word forms and prepositions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complexity frequently contain grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The graph illustrate', 'emissions... is decreased'), missing articles ('in UK and Sweden'), and awkward prepositional usage ('reached on more than 10'). There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect typical characteristics of a developing grammatical range and control.
