Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially and remains incomplete as the writing trails off abruptly mid-sentence at the end. While the student attempts to provide an overview and select some main features, such as the overall downward trend in the UK and increases in Italy and Portugal, the information presented is limited and lacks full development. Key data points are occasionally imprecise, for instance stating the UK figure was 'approximately 11 metric tonnes' in 1967 when the graph shows 10.8. Furthermore, comparisons between countries are not fully realized, and the lack of a complete conclusion leaves the task inadequately fulfilled.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', but the overall progression is disrupted by mechanical and repetitive phrasing such as 'carbon dioxide release into environment' and 'throughout the time'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final section is unfinished and trails off, creating a fragmented structure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the repetitive use of cohesive devices fails to build a smooth, logical flow across the entire text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms and extended phrases like 'carbon dioxide release into environment' rather than precise synonyms or concise scientific terminology. There are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'ihhgher', 'continously', 'toones', 'upsurged', and 'slihjtly', alongside awkward word choices and collocations. These lexical limitations and errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors. There are issues with missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and awkward verb forms, such as 'dropped down continously and reached' or 'there continous rose in Carbon dioxide'. Punctuation and sentence construction are faulty in places, and these frequent grammatical errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
