Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response only partially addresses the task and fails to meet the minimum word length requirement, remaining nineteen words short of the one hundred and fifty-word threshold, which significantly limits the overall development. While the writer attempts to present an overview and mention several countries, the selection of features is incomplete and contains factual inaccuracies. For instance, the text claims that Sweden started from eleven metric tonnes and showed a comprehensive surge, whereas the visual data indicates that Sweden began at 8.6 metric tonnes and actually experienced a downward trend overall. The comparison between countries is also superficial and lacks clear support from the provided chart, preventing the response from reaching higher levels of task fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response displays some organization with a basic attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. However, there is no clear overall progression and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts and poorly integrated statements. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes inaccurate manner, such as the repetitive use of 'Moreover' and 'However', which do not always logically connect the ideas. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between the data points presented across the sentences. Paragraphing is also incomplete, with the final sentence appearing detached from the rest of the body text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'substancial growth' and 'comprehensive surge', these are marred by frequent errors in word form, spelling, and collocation. For example, 'dioxide emissions measure in metrictones' contains inaccurate phrasing, and words like 'substancial', 'tinnes', and 'strated' demonstrate recurrent spelling mistakes. Furthermore, there are awkward collocations such as 'started the journey' and 'highest metric tonnes gas', which cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher level of lexical precision and fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting complex formations. There are frequent issues with verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'this figure drop to around 9 metric tonnes' and 'italy recorded substancial growth gradually'. Punctuation is also problematic, notably missing capitalisation for proper nouns like 'portugal', 'italy', and 'kigdom', as well as missing full stops between sentences. These frequent errors persist throughout the text and frequently cause difficulty for the reader, reflecting restricted control over basic grammatical forms and punctuation.
