Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially. While you correctly identify some main trends, such as the UK decreasing and Italy and Portugal increasing, the overview lacks clarity and misses key comparisons between the countries. Additionally, some of your reported data points are inaccurate or poorly supported; for instance, stating that Portugal has the 'most rate of increase' is imprecise, and you do not provide a clear summary of the overall picture across the forty-year period. To reach a higher level, you need to present a clearer overview in the introduction and select more representative data to compare all four countries effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in your writing, with separate paragraphs attempting to introduce different countries and trends, but there is no clear overall progression from start to finish. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically, such as 'meanwhile for Italy and Portugal' and 'on the other hand', and referencing is occasionally unclear. Furthermore, your paragraphing is somewhat disjointed; sentences are broken up rather than grouped logically around central ideas. To improve, ensure that your paragraphs have clear topic sentences and that you link your ideas smoothly without relying on repetitive transitional phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common words, such as 'drastically', 'dramatically', and 'peaked', but there are noticeable spelling errors ('emmissions', 'indiates', 'Accoring', 'tha', 'metri', 'os', 'persion') and awkward word choices like 'highest fall rate os emmision'. These errors and misspellings occasionally cause difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To move up, you should expand your range of vocabulary for describing trends and pay much closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms. However, these attempts at complex sentences often contain errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The different symbols indicates') and awkward prepositional phrases. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation persist throughout the text, which can cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the variety of your sentence structures while improving your control over basic grammatical rules and punctuation.
