Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main broad patterns: UK and Swedish emissions decline overall, while Italy and Portugal rise, and you note that the UK is highest and Portugal starts lowest. Several figures are also broadly accurate, including the UK’s fall from about 11 to 9 and Sweden’s peak around 1977. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the UK ends at about 8.7, not 8; Portugal reaches about 5.4, not 7; and Italy is already around 4.3 in 1967, rather than the stated 1976. The overview also misses useful comparisons, such as Italy overtaking Sweden and nearly matching the UK by the end. Select key turning points and report them precisely to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview and separate paragraphs describing the countries’ figures. This helps the reader locate the main information. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because the years and changes are not consistently linked. For example, the Italy paragraph moves from 1976 to 1977, although the chart’s first year is 1967, and the repeated phrasing “which…which” makes the sequence cumbersome. Linking expressions such as “by contrast,” “after peaking,” and “over the following decades” would clarify relationships between trends. Keep the overview distinct, then group countries by similar patterns and describe their changes in chronological order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “emissions,” “gradually,” “reached,” and “increased,” so the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. “Average removal of carbon dioxide” does not describe the graph, which shows emissions, and “meter per person” should be expressed as a per-person quantity in metric tonnes. Phrases such as “goes to upward” and “at the lowest point” are also awkward or imprecise. Use a wider set of accurate trend verbs and comparison phrases, while checking spelling and word forms such as “reached” and “emissions.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the response is usually understandable despite some grammatical errors. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction recur. For example, “emissions … is usually decrease” needs a plural subject and a correctly formed verb, while “the carbon dioxide emissions in Italy and Portugal in usually goes” has an unclear structure. Missing articles and prepositions also appear in phrases such as “in UK” and “reached to approximately.” Punctuation spacing is inconsistent, particularly after commas. Practise accurate comparative and past-tense patterns, for example, “UK emissions fell from about 11 tonnes to 9 tonnes,” and proofread each sentence for subject–verb agreement and complete clauses.
