Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the four countries and report the main broad patterns: UK emissions decline, Sweden rises before falling, and Italy and Portugal increase. The overview also correctly notes that the UK is highest overall and Portugal starts lowest. Several figures are close to the chart, such as the UK falling from about 11 to 9 tonnes and Portugal reaching roughly 5.5. However, the overview is imprecise: Portugal is not the lowest by the end, and Italy and Portugal both finish above Sweden. The account also omits key comparisons, including Italy overtaking Sweden and matching the UK’s downward trend with a rise that levels off at the end. Develop these comparisons and make the overview more exact.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs. The contrastive signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help separate the country groups, and the sequence generally follows the years. However, progression within sentences is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the long sentence about Sweden, where several changes are joined together without clear punctuation. The repeated “in 1967 to 2007” and “in the same year” also make time relationships unclear. Group the UK and Sweden trends in a more controlled comparison, then compare Italy and Portugal, using clear time markers such as “by 1977” and “thereafter.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “average,” “tonnes,” “declined,” and “rising,” so the reader can recognise the subject and general trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward: “carbon dioxide gases emissions,” “people contributions of harmful gase,” and “tonnes of carbon release” do not describe the data naturally. Spelling errors such as “contrubitions,” “harmfull,” “emmission,” and “Silimary” are also noticeable. Use precise chart language consistently, for example “per-capita CO₂ emissions,” “emissions per person,” “rose,” and “fell,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical errors occur frequently, especially in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the years shows” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “the UK contribute” and “it rised” use incorrect verb forms. The opening sentence is incomplete, ending after “Portugal” without a main verb, and “the Italy at 1967 the tonnes … are 4.5” has an unclear structure. Articles and tense choices are also inconsistent. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past tense consistently to describe the historical data.
