Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast accurately: emissions in the UK and Sweden generally declined, while Italy and Portugal rose, and you note that the latter countries converged by 2007. However, the report only partly develops the graph’s key details. The UK’s fall is mentioned without its approximate ending figure, and the Sweden account does not clearly report its peak in 1977 or subsequent decline. The statement that Italy reached 6.8 tonnes in 2007 is inaccurate: it was about 7.6, and it had levelled off after rising to that point by 1997. Your overview is relevant, but the body needs clearer, more accurate comparisons across the period to make the summary complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has recognisable sections for an introduction, overview and details, and the overview gives the reader a useful broad direction for the four lines. This provides some organisation. However, the body does not progress clearly through the data: it moves between countries within a long, run-on sentence, and the Sweden figures are difficult to follow. Connectors such as “but,” “while” and “on the other hand” are repeated or used where the relationship is unclear. The separate conclusion also repeats the overview rather than adding information. Organise the body into clearer comparisons—for example, one paragraph for the declining countries and one for the rising countries—and use precise links between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “emissions,” “metric tonnes,” “trajactery” (trajectory) and “converinging” (converging), and phrases such as “steady increases” help communicate the overall trends. However, spelling errors are frequent, including “flauctuations,” “downword,” “droped” and “significantily,” and several expressions are not natural for describing a graph, such as “were stand” and “extremily rise.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Build a reliable set of trend verbs and collocations, such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “declined to” and “remained stable,” and check spelling carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to use longer sentences and contrast clauses, particularly in the overview and the body, but the structures are often faulty and the response relies heavily on simple past forms. Examples include “the united kingdom were stand” and “they were fall,” where the verb forms and agreement are incorrect. Missing or misplaced punctuation also creates run-on sentences, especially in the main body, while articles and sentence openings are inconsistently handled. These errors can make relationships between events unclear. Practise forming accurate trend sentences in the past simple—such as “UK emissions stood at about 11 tonnes and then fell”—before combining them with clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
