Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the countries, time period and unit, and your overview correctly notes that the UK remains the highest emitter while Portugal and Italy rise. However, the response only partially reports the graph: the final paragraph is cut off before explaining the trends for Italy and Portugal, and there is no clear comparison of their ending figures. Sweden is also misreported as starting at about 7 tonnes; it begins at approximately 8.6, while the UK starts near 10.8. The overview’s description of Sweden as fluctuating is relevant, but the key rise to a peak and subsequent decline needs accurate figures. The response is 21 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Complete the country comparisons and report the main changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview and a paragraph with details, with signposts such as “Overall,” “Moreover” and “Lastly.” This helps the reader recognise the intended sequence. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, leaving the discussion of Italy and Portugal unfinished. The overview also groups the two rising countries together without explaining their different paths, and the body moves from the UK to Sweden and then abruptly to the incomplete final point. Use complete paragraphs and organise the details into clear comparisons—for example, the declining UK and Sweden figures, followed by the rising Italian and Portuguese figures. Linking phrases should connect complete ideas rather than substitute for them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “emissions,” “metric tonnes,” “gradually decreased” and “reached,” so the general subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear: “the line graph evident,” “by one person,” “fluctuantion,” “peacked,” and “lowest missions rate.” Country names also need consistent capitalisation. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “shows emissions per person,” “fluctuated,” “peaked,” and “emission levels.” The unfinished phrase “gradually inc…” further prevents the reader from understanding the intended description. More accurate vocabulary for rises, falls and comparisons would make the report clearer and less repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a time clause beginning “though.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “The line graph evident…” lacks a correctly formed main verb, while “other two countries starts” has subject–verb disagreement. In “Sweden showes the 7 metric tonnes emissions,” the verb form and sentence construction are faulty; “it dramatically fall” also uses the wrong verb form. Articles, plurals and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “four different country ( UK,Sweden…” Practise accurate present-tense descriptions, agreement, and complete sentence patterns before adding complex clauses. Proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
