Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the countries, period and general direction of several trends, and many early figures are close to the graph. However, the response does not provide a clear overview of the most important features, such as the UK remaining highest throughout, Sweden peaking in 1977 before falling, and Portugal rising steadily to match Sweden by 2007. The final paragraph is particularly unclear and inaccurate: it says Italy and Sweden continued increasing in 1997, although Sweden fell, and then refers to “Uk and Sweden” decreasing, apparently where the UK and Portugal may be intended. The 2007 figures and final comparisons are not reported clearly. Select the main trends and give a concise, accurate overview before describing details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a broadly chronological order, moving from 1967 through each decade, and phrases such as “In 1977” and “After 10 years” help signal time. This gives the reader some structure. However, the organisation is mostly a sequence of year-by-year statements rather than a clear overview followed by well-grouped comparisons. The final paragraph combines several trends in a confusing way, especially “Uk and Sweden's average remained decreasing,” which makes the comparison difficult to follow. Use a separate overview paragraph, then group countries with similar trends—for example, the declining UK and Sweden against the rising Italy and Portugal. More precise linking and reference would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “metric tonnes,” “average,” “increased,” and “decreasing,” so the subject is generally understandable. There is some variation in how you describe change, such as “remained same” and “noticeable decreasing,” but several expressions are repetitive or imprecise. Spelling errors such as “comperatively,” “repectively,” “avearge,” and “emision” are noticeable, and “average of carbon dioxide” is not a natural way to describe the data. Prefer accurate collocations such as “per-person emissions” and “rose to” or “fell to.” A wider, more precise range for trends and comparisons would make the report clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences with time clauses and comparisons, for example, “In 1977 after ten years…” and “while the average…remained same.” However, the range is limited, and errors recur in subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. The opening “graph illustrate” needs a singular verb, while “United kingdom and Sweden had” requires consistent capitalisation and more natural article use. Several sentences also lack punctuation after introductory time phrases, and the final sentence joins multiple ideas without a clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate simple trend sentences first, then combine them with “while” or “whereas.” This will help you show more variety without losing control.
