Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the countries and give several relevant starting and ending figures, including the UK’s fall from about 11 to 9 tonnes and Italy’s rise to around 7.5. However, the response mainly lists individual countries and does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns. Important developments are omitted or unclear: Sweden rose to a peak in 1977 before declining, while Portugal increased steadily and caught up with Sweden by 2007. The statement that Portugal rose “about 4.5 which was went to 5.5” is confusing and does not accurately describe its change from roughly 1 to 5.4. The opening also calls the UK “England.” Select the key trends and compare them clearly, rather than repeating the highest and lowest figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic sequence through the countries, and phrases such as “In 1967,” “After this,” and “Then” show an attempt to connect information. However, the response does not progress through a clear overview followed by organised comparisons; instead, it repeats the UK’s 1967 figure and moves between countries without grouping similar trends. Several sentence fragments interrupt the flow, including “Which was about 9 metric tonnes” and “And also in 1967 the lowest…” The final sentence is especially difficult to follow because it combines Portugal’s starting value, an unclear increase, and its ending value. Use a short overview, then group the declining series and rising series, with clear sentence boundaries and references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “emissions,” “per person,” “metric tonnes,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the general subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate expressions make the report less precise. “Carbon dioxide emit rate” and “carbon dioxide emissions rate” are awkward; “emissions per person” is more natural. There are also spelling errors such as “encollected” and “mertic,” and “allocate” does not express the intended trend. Aim for accurate collocations and a wider set of trend verbs, such as “rose,” “declined,” “peaked,” and “remained stable,” while checking spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentences using “which” and “but,” but control is weak and many sentences contain errors that make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “In 1967 the highest carbon dioxide emit rate per person in UK” lacks a complete verb, while “And also in 1967 the lowest… is 1 metric tonnes” has problems with sentence structure, tense, and singular/plural agreement. The fragments “Which was about 9 metric tonnes” and “but the was decreased” also show unreliable clause construction and verb forms. Use complete sentences with a consistent past tense for the historical data, for example, “UK emissions fell from about 11 tonnes in 1967 to 9 tonnes in 2007.” Check articles, agreement, and punctuation as you revise.
