Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the graph’s subject and mention all four countries across several years, so the response is relevant to the task. However, the main features are not clearly summarised: there is no concise overview of the overall trends or of which country had the highest and lowest emissions. Several figures and descriptions are inaccurate. For example, Italy rose from about 4.3 tonnes in 1967 to 6.3 in 1977, not “4.2 precent,” and Portugal reached about 5.2 tonnes in 1997 rather than simply increasing “rapidly.” The claim that emissions decreased in the other countries in 1997 is also misleading, since the UK and Sweden declined while Italy continued to rise. Select key trends and report them accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows a basic chronological sequence, using phrases such as “firstly,” “in next year,” and “in last year,” which gives the reader some sense of time order. However, the information is presented as one continuous paragraph, and the repeated year-by-year pattern does not create a clear overview or grouping of related trends. Some links are unclear, particularly “in 1997… in other countries… decrease rapidly,” which obscures which countries are being compared. The opening is also fragmented, and the final comment about carbon dioxide being dangerous does not connect to the chart summary. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs, grouping countries with similar trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant basic terms such as “emissions,” “increase,” “decrease,” and “remain same,” and the reader can generally recognise the topic. However, vocabulary is repetitive and often imprecise, with “carbon dioxide emission” repeated frequently and “precent” used for measurements that should be expressed in tonnes. Several spelling errors, including “dangreous” and “united kingdon,” reduce accuracy. Phrases such as “increase rapidly” are also used without accurately distinguishing the different rates or trends. Build a more precise range for describing data, including “per person,” “tonnes,” “rose steadily,” “peaked,” and “declined,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to describe changes across several years, but sentence structures are mostly simple and frequently contain errors that make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “different year are given in graph” has problems with number, articles, and sentence construction, while “in this year carbon dioxide emissions per person is 1” has subject–verb agreement and article issues. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, as in “4.2italy” and “increasein.” Tense and sentence boundaries are not controlled consistently, and the opening includes a fragment. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine comparisons with structures such as “while” and “whereas”; check articles, plurals, verb agreement, and punctuation.
