Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the period and all four countries, and you report several broad trends accurately: UK emissions declined, Sweden rose and then fell, and Italy and Portugal generally increased. However, the overview is unclear and includes a factual error: Portugal, not Italy, had the lowest emissions at the start, while Italy was below the UK and Sweden but not the lowest throughout. Some key comparisons are also missing, especially that Italy overtook Sweden and finished second, while Portugal reached Sweden’s level by 2007. The account of Portugal gives only an overall rise, and several figures or periods are vague. A clearer overview and more selective, accurate comparisons would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to country details. It also uses some sequencing expressions, such as “Between 1967 and 1977” and “then.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded into long sentences, and the country-by-country comparisons are not consistently organised. The overview sentence beginning “It is also clear” is especially confusing, and the final paragraph shifts from Sweden to Portugal without a clear transition. Some linking words, including “Regarding that” and “while,” do not clearly show the relationship between the information. Grouping related trends and using simpler, more precise transitions would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “emissions,” “metric tonnes,” “increased,” “decreased” and “stable,” so the reader can recognise the subject and general trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward, such as “the highest metric tonnes emission” and “the middle used.” Repetition of “CO2 emissions per person” also makes the report less flexible. Spelling errors such as “diffrent,” “shaply,” “emmission” and “metic” are noticeable and sometimes slow understanding. Aim for accurate phrases such as “per-capita emissions,” “stood at,” and “rose steadily,” while checking spelling and avoiding unnatural expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to describe changes across several time periods, but sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to control. For example, “Between 1967 and 1977 carbon dioxide emission stable” lacks a correctly formed verb, while “the emissions per person in the four country in carbon dioxide” does not form a clear sentence. Errors in articles, plurals and agreement also recur, as in “four country” and “the United Kingdom countrys people.” Long sentences joined with “then” or “while” often lack clear punctuation and grammatical structure. Practise building accurate simple sentences first—for example, “UK emissions were stable until 1977, then declined”—before combining trends with subordinate clauses.
