Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph below shows the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person between 1967 and 2007. In different menstion countries.
In the graph it is clearly shown that United Kingdom has more matric tonnes of carbon emissions and the lowest persent of carbon emession was Portugal at the start.
Looking at the graph in more detail the propotions of United Kingdom was unchanged from 1967 to 1977 it was around 11 metic ton then it slightly strated droping to around 9 metric ton throughout the 1967 to 2007. moreover the secound largest carbon emession country was sweden. Its propotion has most sharp turning point. In 1967 its propotions was around 9 metric ton which then drametically increaced to 10 metric ton in 1977. then it again rapidly decreaced to 7 metric ton in 1987. and after that it minimally start decreacing to around 5 metric ton from 1987 to 2007.
Now speaking about italy it started around 4 mertic ton and slowely started rising in 1977 it reaches to 6.3 metric ton then it stably increasing it reaches 6.6 in 1987. Then it slowly increases and stabled to 8.9 metric ton. Then itgot stabled from 1997 to 2007.
At last only one country lefted is portugal it strarted aound 1 metric ton then gradualy started increacing from 1967 to 1987 it reacheses to 3.7 metric ton and soon after it repidly increaced to 4.8 in around 1997. and then also got stabled from here to 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad pattern that the UK had the highest emissions at the beginning and Portugal the lowest, and you describe all four countries. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not clearly summarise the main changes across the period, especially Italy’s rise to match Sweden and Portugal’s substantial increase. Some figures are inaccurate: Italy reaches about 7.6 tonnes in 1997 and remains there in 2007, not 8.9; Portugal is about 3.3 in 1987 and 5.2 in 1997, rather than 3.7 and 4.8. The UK also declines gradually rather than remaining unchanged throughout. To strengthen the report, give a concise overview of the key trends and check figures against the graph before describing individual stages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a brief comparison, and separate sections for the countries. This makes the information generally easy to follow. Sequencing phrases such as “Looking at the graph in more detail” and “At last” signal movement between points, although some transitions are mechanical or awkward, and “At last only one country lefted” is not a natural way to introduce Portugal. The long country-by-country descriptions also make comparisons between series less clear; for example, Italy’s rise and Portugal’s rise could be compared directly. Use a clear overview paragraph, then group related trends, and use concise linking phrases to show contrasts and similarities.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “emissions,” “metric ton,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “stable,” so the reader can usually understand the intended trends. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “proportions” for emission levels and “sharp turning point” for Sweden’s peak and subsequent fall. Numerous spelling errors—including “menstion,” “emession,” “drametically,” and “strarted”—also reduce clarity and control. Aim for precise chart language such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “levelled off,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “started” and “metric ton” when more varied, accurate phrasing is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example when describing Sweden’s rise and fall, but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure and verb forms appear in phrases such as “United Kingdom has more,” “its proportions was,” and “it reaches 6.6”; these need appropriate articles, agreement, and consistent past tense. Some sentences are fragments, including “In different menstion countries,” while punctuation and capitalisation are also unreliable after full stops. Most statements remain understandable, but these recurring problems sometimes make the relationships between events harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build sentences around a clear subject and verb, using shorter sentences where needed.
