Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph below describes average carbon dioxide emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal during 1967 to 2007.
Here we can see that, There is significant increase in the carbon dioxide emission of Portugal and Intaly during 1967 to 2007. Inversely, We can clearly see the significant decrease in the carbon dioxide emission of United Kingdom and Sweden comparatively during 1967 to 2007. Moreover that, The carbon dioxide emission is same in Sweden and Portugal in 2007 which is 5 per person. In addition, Italy and United Kingdom have carbon emission around 7 and 9 per person which is higher compare to Sweden and Portugal.
To summurize this, I would like to say that, Among all this four United Kingdom have the Highest carbon emission per person which is 9 in 2007. On the other hand Italy and Portugal have the lowest carbon emission per person which is 5 in 2007.Over all United kingdom and Sweden beautifully controlled there carbon emissions and put it down from 11 to 9 and 9 to 5 resectively during 1967 to 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad contrast between rising emissions in Italy and Portugal and falling emissions in the UK and Sweden, and you note that the UK remains highest in 2007. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: Sweden and Portugal finish at about 5.4 tonnes each, while Italy is about 7.6 and the UK about 8.7, so describing Italy and Portugal as the lowest in 2007 is incorrect. The claim that the UK and Sweden fell from 11 to 9 and 9 to 5 is broadly approximate, but the response misses important features such as Sweden’s peak in 1977 and Italy’s rise followed by stability. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would make the summary more complete and better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: it introduces the graph, groups the countries by broad trend, and ends with a summary. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is limited because the same trends and comparisons are repeated in the final paragraph rather than developed in a clear sequence. Linking phrases such as “Inversely,” “Moreover that,” and “To summurize this” are either awkward or used mechanically, and the reference in “Among all this four” is unclear. Organise the body around the countries’ contrasting patterns, then give a concise overview of the main rankings and changes; use fewer, more natural transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “carbon dioxide emissions,” “significant increase,” “decrease,” and “highest,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, particularly “carbon emission” and “per person.” Some word choices and collocations are unnatural, such as “beautifully controlled” emissions and “put it down,” which do not suit a neutral data report. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Intaly,” “summurize,” and “resectively.” Aim for precise trend language and accurate spelling; for example, describe emissions as having “declined” or “risen,” rather than saying they were “put down.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas using contrast and addition. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the writing awkward. Examples include “There is significant increase” (missing an article), “Italy and United Kingdom have” (article use), and “higher compare to” (incorrect comparative construction). The sentence beginning “Moreover that” is also not formed naturally, while inconsistent capitalisation after commas and missing spacing after “2007.” affect punctuation. Practise accurate article use, comparative forms such as “higher than,” and varied but controlled sentence structures.
