Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, some people believe that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel or to work in a foreign country while others believe that these are not the only reasons to learn a foreign language . In my opinion, learning a new langauge can be beneficial for communicating with other people.

A group of people believe that learning a foreign language is important for work and travel and it can be advantageous in my other ways such as communicate with different people around the world. However, learning any foreign langauge is really helpful for travelling as well as working purposes. However, It can be fruitful for them to have a better job opportunity and they can travel without any trouble. For instance, Japan invites those people who can speak japanese all around the world.

Another group of people believe that learning foreign lanagues for work and travel purposes is not the only reason. Some people enjoy to learn different languages for their easiness just like they can talk with others who can speak the langauge which they are learning. Additionally, if someone travels a place where people don't understand his lanaguage, so it can be hard for him to talk and commnicate with locals . If a student travels abroad for higher education, he learns a foreign language so that , he can earn money to pay his tution fee and without learning a foreign language, it is not easy at all.

In conclusion , some think that for travelling and working in abroad, it is important to learn a foreign language while others say that it is not the only reason to learn aforeign language. In my opinion, learing a foreign language can be useful if someone travels abroad for study , work purpose or even travelling purposes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state an opinion, so the response is relevant to the question. The discussion of travel and work includes the point that language can help people communicate with locals, and the example of Japan gives some support. However, the two positions are not developed clearly or evenly: the first paragraph about the views repeats that language is useful for work and travel, while the second introduces studying abroad and earning money without explaining how this supports the broader view. Your own opinion also shifts: the introduction emphasises communicating with others, but the conclusion focuses mainly on study, work and travel. Develop each view with a distinct reason and example, then maintain one clear position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, which gives it a recognisable overall structure. However, progression within the paragraphs is unclear because ideas are repeated or joined without a clear relationship. For example, the first body paragraph begins by saying language helps with work and travel, then repeats that it is helpful for those purposes before adding job opportunities. The repeated use of “However” does not signal a genuine contrast, and “Additionally” introduces an idea that is not clearly connected to the preceding point. Plan each paragraph around one main idea, use linking expressions only when their meaning fits, and make references such as “these” and “it” clearly point to a specific idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “communicating,” “job opportunity,” “higher education” and “locals,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “advantageous in my other ways,” “for their easiness,” “travels a place,” and repeated misspellings such as “langauge” and “commnicate.” Some phrases also repeat the same basic terms, particularly “work and travel.” Build a wider set of accurate expressions for reasons and benefits, check spelling carefully, and learn common combinations such as “communicate with locals” and “employment opportunities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “while,” “if” and “so that.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Some people enjoy to learn” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “if someone travels a place … so it can be hard” combines clauses inaccurately. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “learning foreign lanagues … is not the only reason” and the comma placement in “so that , he can earn.” Practise accurate sentence patterns first, especially verb forms after “enjoy,” conditional clauses, and article use, then proofread punctuation.
