Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, in contemporary society it is often debate that some individuals learn foreign language for traval and work. Communication skills is necessary for tourism and employement in other country. I believe that learning an other country language is important for both personal and cognitive adantages. In this essay i will discuss the both views and give my opinion.

Firstly, there are clear several reasons why people learn language for travel and work. In today globalised world many people learn foreign language espacially English for international trading, multinational companies and careers advancment. For instance an empolye who speaks many different languages can get more job oppourtunities and high salaries. Moreover, many young students learn English language for better education in foreign countries. Furthermor, travelling become more easier when we can speak local languages. By this we can communicate with local residance, ask for directions and understand their cultures without any language barriers. For this reason many people think language is an effective tool for travel and work.

On the other hand, many people argue that there are other reasons why people learn language. Some people do its as a hobby, learning a new language improves cognitive skills and brain health. It enhance memory, problem solving skills and multitasking skills. Moreover, it also help to study other country cultures in deep. By watching foreign movies, listen music and read litrature in their language, people can appercite their art and history on much deep level.

In conclusion, while working and traveling abroad are major motivating factors for study a language, they are certainly not only the factors. I believe that mental stimulation, cultural enrichment and personal satisfaction gained from learning make it valuable pursuit for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: travel and work are important motives, but learning also offers cognitive, cultural and personal benefits. The two main body paragraphs develop relevant reasons, with examples such as gaining job opportunities, communicating with local residents and engaging with foreign films and literature. This gives the response a clear, supported position. To strengthen the discussion further, explain some points in more depth rather than making broad claims—for example, clarify how learning a language improves problem-solving or how cultural understanding benefits learners beyond entertainment. Your conclusion effectively restates your view, though it could draw together the two sides more specifically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for travel and work, one for other motivations, and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically within each paragraph, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Examples generally appear beside the claims they support. At times, however, linking is somewhat formulaic, particularly with repeated “Moreover” and “For this reason.” Some references are also unclear, as in “By this,” which does not precisely identify the preceding idea. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make links between claims and examples more explicit to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “globalised world,” “multinational companies,” “cognitive skills,” “cultural enrichment” and “language barriers.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are frequent enough to make the vocabulary control uneven: examples include “traval,” “employement,” “advancment,” “residance” and “litrature.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “study a language” where “learning a language” would fit better, and “on much deep level.” Proofread spelling carefully and focus on accurate collocations and word forms. This will make your meaning more precise and allow your relevant topic vocabulary to have greater impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a conditional example (“when we can speak local languages”) and a contrastive structure (“while working and traveling abroad are major motivating factors…”). The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction occur regularly. For example, “Communication skills is necessary” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “It enhance memory” and “it also help” need singular verb forms. The opening phrase “it is often debate” is also grammatically incomplete. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and review articles and plural forms. More accurate control of these basics will support your attempts at complex sentences.
