Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that the only reason for learning a foreign language is to travel or work in a foreign country whereas others believe these are not the only reasons to learn a foreign language.i strongly agree that the reason for learning a foreign language is only to work or travel in a foreign country.
one of the main reason is english language is an international language . in the world almost all countries accept english language if any person go to abroad becasue of study they must know the english language or foreign language other wise they were not survive in univeristy as well as who are going to wrok in ground level in abroad they must know the native language that countries .
and on the other hand some people are learning foreign language as a skill , some are passionate to learn something new . for example i am living in bangladesh but now days i am learning finish language because duolingo its a free app which is provide free language over the world through the app. and i am learning beacasue of finish pronounciation are so interesting and as well as its free.
in conclusion while practical incentives like employement and travel remain powerful for learning a foreign language . Cognitive cultural and personal enrichment gaind through mastering another language makes the journey worthful even for those who never leave there home country .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You present a position and touch on both views: the first body paragraph discusses language for study and work abroad, while the next gives personal interest and learning as other motives. However, the response does not fully discuss the two sides, and your opening says you “strongly agree” that work or travel is the only reason, which conflicts with your later support for personal and cultural reasons and your conclusion. The examples are brief and some points are unclear or unsupported. The response is 229 words, so it is 21 words below the 250-word minimum; this limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop each view with a clear example and state a consistent opinion throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The contrast between the views is signalled by “whereas” and “on the other hand,” and the conclusion attempts to bring the discussion together. However, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph combines English as an international language, studying abroad and ground-level work without clearly separating or linking these points. The opening position also conflicts with the conclusion, weakening the overall line of argument. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and the long first body paragraph would benefit from clearer sentence boundaries. Organise one paragraph around practical reasons and another around personal or cultural reasons, then use a consistent position to connect them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “international language,” “passionate,” “pronunciation” and “cultural and personal enrichment.” These choices show an attempt to discuss more than basic travel and employment. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “work in ground level,” “finish language,” and “worthful.” Repetition of “foreign language” and “learn” also reduces flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, use “Finnish” for the language and “valuable” rather than “worthful.” More precise vocabulary would help you explain the practical and personal benefits clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast introduced by “whereas” and a concluding “while” clause. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “one of the main reason is” needs plural agreement, while “they were not survive” has an incorrect verb construction. The first body paragraph also runs several ideas together without reliable punctuation, and the opening “i strongly agree” needs capitalisation and clearer sentence separation. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea each, then add subordinate clauses only when you can control their grammar.
