Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that the sole reason for learning a new language is if you are visiting a foreign country however others argue that it should not be the only reason to learn multi languages. I largely supports the latter view as learning a new language can enhance the personality and offers job opportunity to many people.

On the first hand, learning a different language can make positive impact on a persons' personality. A multi-lingual person tends to be more confident in any environment rathar than the person who only knows their native language. Multilingual individiuals can converse with every type of people as well as they understands their different cultures just because they can easily makes conversations with them. For instance, In my country, most of the population donot understand the english language which makes them a little hesitate about their personality especially among the group of people who knows multi languages.

Furthermore, learning new languages can provide employement opportunities for many people. There are several jobs such as doing a voice over for a turkish drama or being a translator for meetings and presentations. For example, in pakistan and india, majority of people loves to watch foreign shows or films but only in their native language which is transalted by a multi-linguial person.

On the other hand, many individuals visit a new country for traveling or working purpose therefore, in order to communicate with foreign people and they should know their language. For example, many tourists visit Pakistan but sometimes they get scammed just because they donot get their languages.

In conclusion, it is important to know a foreign language in order to visit other countries however it should not be considered as the reason. there are plenty of other reason to explore different languages in terms of job opportunities or to commuinicate with wide range of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for the broader reasons for learning languages: “I largely support the latter view.” The discussion of confidence and employment gives relevant support, including examples of translation and voice-over work. However, the first view—learning for travel or work abroad—is treated more briefly, and the tourist example about being scammed does not fully explain why learning the language is necessary or how this supports the view. Some claims, such as multilingual people being confident in any environment, are broad and would benefit from qualification or a more specific example. Develop both sides more evenly and make the conclusion’s position more precise: acknowledge travel as a valid reason while explaining why it is not the only one.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the wider benefits and travel-related reasons, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some stronger control through logical sequencing. However, “On the first hand” is an awkward transition, and the relationship between some ideas is not always smooth; for example, the point about confidence shifts into a claim about understanding cultures without fully connecting the two. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Use more precise transitions and clearer links between claims and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “multilingual,” “translator,” “employment opportunities,” and “communicate,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “multi languages,” “make positive impact,” “doing a voice over,” and “get their languages”; these are not natural or precise in context. There are also spelling errors such as “rathar,” “individiuals,” and “transalted.” The intended meaning is usually recoverable, but greater accuracy and a wider set of natural topic-specific phrases are needed. Check collocations and spelling carefully, and prefer precise expressions such as “communicate in the local language.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “which,” and “just because,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For example, “I largely supports” should be “I largely support,” while “a multi-lingual person … they understands” shifts agreement and pronoun number. The sentence beginning “therefore, in order to communicate” is also structurally incomplete, and “there are plenty of other reason” needs a plural noun. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy. Practise checking each sentence for a clear main clause, consistent subject–verb agreement, and correct singular or plural forms.
