Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You introduce both positions and give a relevant reason for learning languages for travel or work, supported by examples such as visa applicants needing to pass a language test. You also begin to explain wider benefits, including communication with people from different backgrounds and international business. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the first view is largely described rather than examined, and the second view’s examples and explanation remain incomplete. Your own opinion is not stated clearly; the introduction promises to discuss other benefits, but the essay does not establish which view you support or why. State your position directly and develop each view with a complete explanation and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about travel and work, and a contrasting paragraph about other reasons. Transitions such as “On the other hand” help signal the shift between views, and examples generally follow the ideas they illustrate. However, progression is weakened by abrupt or incomplete development, particularly the final business example, which ends mid-sentence. Some connections are also unclear, and the repeated use of broad openings such as “It is believed” and “There are other factors” does not always show how one point follows from another. Use clearer topic sentences, link each example explicitly to its claim, and finish with a conclusion that restates your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “communication,” “job opportunities,” “native speakers,” “social media,” and “meaningful interaction.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “skilled worker visa” are relevant to the examples. However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise, which limits clarity: “the corresponding country,” “people who are accustomed spend vacations,” and “a exceptional talent” do not sound natural in context. Some wording is also repetitive, especially repeated references to “foreign language” and “country.” Aim for more accurate collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, use “the destination country,” “people who regularly travel,” and “a valuable skill.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “For instance” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “Language a excellent tool,” which is missing a verb and article, and “people who are accustomed spend,” which needs a different verb pattern. There are also problems with agreement and articles in “a exceptional talent,” as well as sentence-boundary and capitalization errors, such as joining sentences without a space and capitalizing “There” after a comma. Practise building accurate complete sentences before adding longer clauses, and check articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
