Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that learning a foreign language is in oeder to travel to or work in a foreign country . From my perspective there are some particular reasons except this.
On the one hand, many people learn other language besides their mother tongue just to get a good profession and for their basic needs. Knowing foreign languages help a person to know about the culture of the country. It significantly allows a tourist to native new place , order foods from the online specially to interact with the native people without relying constantly on the translator apps. It makes a job seeker candidate specific so that the person could get hired easily in the multinational companies. It's certain that there are many companies require bilingual employes .
One the other hand, there are some mental and social benefits except getting jobs and travels. Initally , learning a language helps a person to learn about the culture , traditions, history etc. Secoundly , learning a new language decrease the memory power of the brain and the power of making any decision. However, in this era of global village many people are communicating with the people from other countries through the social media . To make new friends and enjoying foreign dramas people learn languages . It helps a person to learn the deep meaning of those movies and dramas .
In conclusion,Though learning a foreign language motivates to travel and profession , this is not only the reason . This can be learnt by a person as their hobby too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a clear overall opinion: travel and work are important motives, but language learning can also be a hobby and support social interests. The examples about communicating with local people, employment in multinational companies, making friends, and understanding foreign dramas are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The first view receives several examples, while the broader benefits in the second view are listed more briefly, and the claim that learning a language “decrease[s] the memory power” is unclear and appears to contradict the likely intended benefit. Explain each main reason more fully and make your position explicit throughout, rather than relying mainly on the brief conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the second body paragraph moves from mental benefits to culture, then to an unclear claim about memory, and finally to social media and dramas without explaining how these points connect. Some linking is also mechanical, as in “Initially” and “Secondly.” Group related ideas, use clearer references between sentences, and explain the relationship between each example and the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “multinational companies,” “bilingual,” “traditions,” and “social media,” and you attempt to express several distinct reasons for learning languages. However, the range is limited and there are noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors that sometimes make meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “oeder,” “native new place,” “order foods from the online,” and “decrease the memory power.” Some expressions also sound unnatural, such as “makes a job seeker candidate specific.” Choose more precise, natural phrases and check spelling and word forms carefully. For instance, describe how language skills help tourists “navigate a new place” and “order food at restaurants.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “companies require bilingual employes” and a purpose construction about learning languages to make friends. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Knowing foreign languages help” needs subject–verb agreement, while “there are many companies require” lacks a grammatical link between the clauses. The sentence beginning “It significantly allows a tourist” also has an unclear structure. Practise building accurate sentences with subordinate clauses, and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. More reliable control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to understand.
